During the past couple of nights around Sunset there's been a furry of activity and a feeding Frenzy going on in the water. Yes, I heard of Mayflys but never really knew anything about them. In our quest to learn more about Lake Beulah, here's a few things about them.
-Life span can be anywhere from a few minutines to a few days depending on the species and there's 2500 of those.. they get the honor of being one of the most short lived animals in the world;
-Eggs are laid on the surface of water and then sink to the bottom ...waiting a year to hatch.
Here's a few pic's from last night..
I don't know if this is good or bad but Mayflies possess paired genitalia ,the male has two penises and the female has two gonopores ..since the primary function of the adult is reproduction , I believe this is a very good thing.
Cheers,
